Cavity ventilated roof structure (Roof with air circulation)
The cavity ventilated roof is the ideal structure for Falzinc. The special benefit of this roof structure is the fact that any penetrating moisture is safely conducted away in ventilation gaps. This additional protection makes the cavity ventilated roof structure the perfect standard solution for handcrafted metal roof coverings.

 

Single-leaf, non-ventilated roof structure (externally insulated roof / non-ventilated flat roof)
Due to the build up of the system, the single-leaf, non-ventilated roof structure requires greater care during construction of the diffusion blocking layers in order to avoid penetration of moisture, from condensation, into the roof system. However, Falzinc is resistant to corrosion even on the reverse side and due to its excellent material properties, it’s ideally suited for non-ventilated roof constructions.

Kalzip foldable aluminium was specifically developed to suit market demand and is an extremely lightweight and flexible roof covering material that utilises traditional workmanship methods and techniques. The material can be folded, bent, cut and curved to create a contemporary aesthetic, providing almost limitless potential for design.

Double standing seam fold



The classical double standing seam ensures watertight joints and is preferably used on shallow pitched roofs (³ 3°).

For roof pitches of < 5° sealing strips ensure that the formed seams do not allow water ingress. Joining of the sheets is done by hand or machine. The resulting profile enhances the overall character and aesthetics of the roof design. Developed to optimise its flexibility and foldability, the Kalzip foldable materials can easily be used to create perfect concave, convex and conical shapes, providing almost limitless potential for design.

Angular standing seam fold

The angular standing seam is a variation on the double standing seam, however the fold is not turned over completely but left horizontal, ideal for distinctive façades, roof parapets and other details.

Due to the broad surface appearance of the seams, the angular standing seam increases the optical effect of the sheets. In this case, the seam is only folded once and additional sealing of the seam is not possible, therefore, for roof applications the angular standing seam requires a pitch of more than 25°.

In areas with the potential for a lot of snow etc, the roof pitch should be at least 35° to ensure the roof characteristics and protection against ingress of water. Due to the outstanding foldability of the Kalzip foldable materials, you can switch from an angular standing seam to a double standing seam as required.

Falzinc Foldable Kalzip with a zinc surface uses the symbiosis of two established metals: aluminium and zinc. The Kalzip patented PEGAL process encases the aluminium core with a weathered zinc surface, resulting in a quality product which is unobtrusive, and has all the advantages of aluminium coupled with the characteristics of weathered zinc.

The surface appearance of Falzinc will change with time from a blue grey finish to one slightly darker than that of weathered aluminium. Falzinc has excellent corrosion resistance. BBA certificate 08/4571 stands testament to the product’s quality. This excellent resistance to outdoor exposure and the combination of the bonding between the aluminium and zinc produce considerable surface stabilisation.
