Roof-integrated photovoltaics solution for solar architecture
Make money from your own (company) roof – it makes sense for photovoltaic system (PV) owners. As well environmental reasons - power generation without the environmentally damaging CO2 – there are economic factors that support the use of solar modules. Harvesting solar energy deals with the Renewable Energies Act (EEG) for guaranteed revenues. And even if the feed-in compensation is in general falling, self-generated solar energy can be used for one's own use. Thanks to storage solutions, the individual domestic consumption rate is further increased. This furthermore leads to reduced energy costs. Kalzip, specialist in aluminium building envelopes, is currently introducing a new generation of solar systems for aluminium rooves.
Fully IEC-certified, glass-free PV modules
Kalzip AluPlusSolar refers to the roof-integrated PV solar power system, whereas Kalzip SolarClad denotes a retrofit solution of Kalzip Stehfalzsysteme. The installed module is based on silicon solar cells and was developed by DAS Energy, Vienna Neustadt, Austria. The ultralight and semi-flexible PV module is the first fully IEC-certified, glass-free PV module worldwide that imbeds the PV cells in glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP). The patented glass fibre reinforced plastic centre, together with the latest front and back, as well as EVA sheets guarantee body, a robust design, flexibility, quality and durability - all in one module. The micro-lenticular surface, which consists of an ETFE sheet (Ethylen-Tetrafluorethylen), provides a so-called light-trapping effect, and thus better absorbency of sun rays, and thus earning more revenue. The use of the ETFE sheet does not just make the surface stain-resistant, but anti-glare, too.
Kalzip AluPlusSolar is applied on polyester-coated profiled sheets in RAL 9006 and is available in either straight or convex rounded profile shapes. Without the mounting system integrated into the surface, the solar cells are toned-down, but they do retain their independent, punchy character. The mounting technology of the roof-integrated Kalzip AluPlusSolar solution is deliberately placed on the inside. This securely protects plug connections and cables from moisture, snow, ice, ultraviolet rays and animals. And on the roof surface area, there is not an annoying cable conduit or connection in sight. The collective advantages of aluminium with those of a photovoltaic system result in a perfect composition of design and function. Kalzip AluPlusSolar allows a wide array of roof constructions to materialise. Barrel-shaped, sawtooth or monopitch roofs are just as easy to engineer as an energy roof, like individually contoured shapes. If you want more, you can use the product for the whole building envelope and use the façade surfaces as solar panels up to a maximum 90˚ angle. The manufacturer provides architects with planning possibilities and environmentally friendly solar living spaces to design - economically, sustainably and aesthetically.
Kalzip SolarClad is offered as an retrofit solution for standing seam systems. The PV modules are fully adhered to flat sheets and can be secured - parallel to standing seams or perpendicular to standing seams, along the contour or elevated from the roof - non-penetratively on the Kalzip standing seam flange with construction-approved Kalzip seam clamps. That's how existing roofscapes turn into solar power plants.
