Asymmetric Slimdek Beam
The structural engineer must decide which type of section is most economic for a given design situation
The Asymmetric Slimdek® Beam (ASB) is produced by hot rolling in which the degree of asymmetry between the widths of the top and bottom flanges is approximately 60%, and the top flange is embossed to enhance composite action with the concrete encasement. The Asymmetric Slimdek Beam has been specifically designed for use with either deep decking or pre-cast hollow core units
Two types of Asymmetric Slimdek Beam sections are available in S355JR and J0 steel to BS EN 10025
- Asymmetric Slimdek Beam - asymmetric sections with thin webs that require fire protection to the exposed bottom flange to achieve more than 30 minutes fire resistance
- Asymmetric Slimdek Beam(FE) - asymmetric sections that are engineered for optimum characteristics in the normal and fire conditions. The beams have a thicker web to achieve a fire resistance up to 60 minutes when unprotected assuming that the integrity of the web is not breached.
The structural engineer must decide which type of section is most economic for a given design situation.
