South Yorkshire Developer Contractor, J F Finnegan Ltd has constructed a European Centre of Excellence at the site for their Tenant, Swedish industrial group Sandvik.

A key requirement for Sandvik was to ensure that the new building was a flexible space that could house both a busy workshop and office accommodation.

The project itself involves the construction of a new 10,450 m2 facility which incorporates a 8,360 m2 workshop, 22,500 m2 of office accommodation and 150 parking spaces, bringing together all the finish processing and supply management activities for the production of orthopaedic implants and instruments from Sandvik’s existing Sheffield facilities.

As part of the new build programme, Corus Panels and Profiles specified 8,700 m2 of its R32 built-up roof system and 4,000 m2 of C32 built-up wall cladding system along with 12,700 m2 of LP1000 liner. Rob Sheriff, Senior Quantity Surveyor, J F Finnegan comments: “A key requirement in the successful delivery of the project was ensuring the finished building achieved optimum acoustic performance. The Sandvik’s European Centre of Excellence is a mixed use development which houses a busy and noisy workshop alongside office accommodation, therefore it was essential we specified products that would enable us to construct a building that could house both working environments.

The built-up system from Corus Panels and Profiles has inherently strong sound reduction characteristics, which enabled us to achieve excellent acoustic quality throughout the entire building.” The building envelope plays a key role in keeping internal noise in as well as external noise out. The pre-finished built-up system from Corus Panels and Profiles incorporates rock fibre non-combustible insulation laid over a liner, providing for both sound reduction as well as sound absorption.

The built-up system from Corus Panels and Profiles comprised of Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® in Goosewing Grey on the roof and Colorcoat Prisma® in Silver Metallic and Grey Aluminium on the walls. Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® is a thickfilm coating formulation which comprises of a high-performance primer providing excellent corrosion resistance. The use of Colorcoat Prisma® on the building ensured the final appearance fitted in with the local environment whilst achieving outstanding colour and gloss retention resulting in a building with a strong visual identity in keeping with Sandvik’s leading brand status.
