Adnams Brewery Distribution Centre
2008
Dubbed as ‘Britain’s greenest warehouse’, the new Adnams Brewery Distribution Centre in Southwold illustrates that innovative thinking and commitment can transform distribution centre architecture from the basic ‘shed’ into environmentally responsible construction.

Corus Panels and Profiles played a fundamental part in this £14 million project, which demanded a 6,250 sq m roof that was covered with earth and sedums and will eventually mature into a green meadow, complete with wild flowers. This roof was the largest single environmental element of the project, designed by architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson.
Corus Panels and Profiles became involved in the project at an early stage, when sub-contractor S&G Cladding approached it with a request for a long span roof deck with a perforated option that could span up to 6.75m. Working closely with S&G, Corus Panels and Profiles developed a fully documented roof design using its D159 decking profile that met all the requirements.
Nitesh Magdani, project architect, says: “A unique combination of features means that Adnams’ distribution centre is a landmark development. It provides an ideal illustration of the importance of sustainable design and commitment to green issues at every level.”
