Corefast 'first' for Manchester
20 Apr 2006
The first Corefast core to be installed in a UK commercial building has been completed by Balfour Beatty at the Forty Springardens site in central Manchester. This prestigious office development comprises 2 basement floors and 9 storeys above, with the Corefast core running through the basement floors and the first 6 storeys above ground – the 3 top storeys are traditional braced steel.
Corefast was selected by Balfour Beatty in preference to reinforced concrete due to the contractor’s desire to complete the project in the minimum amount of time – the tight inner city site presented an array of logistical challenges so speed and an efficient build sequence were important issues.
Forty Springardens is due to be completed by Spring 2007and when fully constructed the imposing building will be a landmark in this part of the city and one of Manchester’s most desirable business addresses.
