In support of Lord West’s recently announced anti-terrorism guide which focuses on providing adequate security for crowded places in the event of a terrorist attack – Quick Link Lite is designed to provide protection from small to medium sized vehicle borne improved explosive devices (VBIEDs).  It is ideal for use in environments where space is limited and large vehicles cannot be deployed to carry out an attack – thus requiring a lower specification barrier system to provide the necessary protection. The first deployment of the new system took place at the G20 Summit, which was held in London in April.

Quick Link Lite has been developed to complement the Company’s existing range of high performance barriers. The system comprises ‘T’ and ‘Z’ shaped barrier units, made from Bi-Steel, a Corus patented high performance steel/concrete composite material, which can be connected together to create a flexible, surface mounted system to directly address the requirements of a wide range of security-sensitive site layouts.

Quick Link Lite incorporates several unique features that enable it to be installed very quickly and the barriers can be easily removed or the layout reconfigured as required. The reduced weight of the individual units means that they can be rapidly loaded for delivery, whilst their small footprint allows a greater number to be stacked together on one vehicle. Installation is very straightforward – barriers are off-loaded by lorry-mounted crane, and lowered directly into position, providing flexible yet highly robust linking. Careful design of the system has negated the need for foundations or permanent securing points, eliminating the requirement for time consuming and potentially damaging road surface fixings. Steel buttresses are connected at intervals to the rear of the barriers to provide extra stability and security. The new barriers have been tested in accordance with PAS 68, for vehicle impact, whilst the Bi-Steel panel has been successfully tested against a wide range of blast attacks.
