Tower crane mounted on top of Corefast core reduces build time
24 Jun 2008
This tower crane, mounted on top of a Corus Corefast building core, is being used to erect a second Corefast structural core as well as the main steelwork frame on this landmark office scheme in Mayfair, London.
Using this modular off-site core construction technique will enable construction manager Mace to save an estimated eight weeks on the project programme.
The tower crane was mounted onto a special steel ‘saddle’, designed and fabricated by Corus, which was bolted onto the top of the first Corefast core. This innovative approach enabled Mace to erect the second Corefast core, a
Bi-Steel shear wall and the complete steel building frame without the limitations that a tower crane positioned within this very constrained city centre site would have presented.
